Cayman Islands

Seven Mile Beach, calm turquoise water and reef diving without the crowds.

About Cayman Islands

Grand Cayman is the largest and most developed of the three Cayman Islands, and the one nearly every US traveler means when they say they are headed to Cayman. The island is flat, low-lying and built around water: no volcanic peaks or jungle interior, just reef, sandbar and one famously long stretch of beach.

A Luxury Escape Offers Cayman package is a resort stay along or near Seven Mile Beach, the island's main hotel corridor. You cover your own meals and extras unless your specific resort books all-inclusive; we handle the room and, on the fly-away product, the flight.

The water is the whole reason people come back. Stingray City puts you waist-deep with wild southern stingrays in a shallow sandbar, and the surrounding reef walls draw certified divers from across the Caribbean for visibility that regularly runs past 100 feet, on days when the wind and current cooperate.

Highlights of Cayman Islands

01

Seven Mile Beach

A long arc of soft white sand lined with resorts on one side and calm, shallow turquoise water on the other, with public beach access points along its full length.

02

Stingray City

A shallow sandbar in the North Sound where wild southern stingrays gather, reachable by boat tour, where waders and snorkelers can stand chest-deep and touch the rays under a guide.

03

Cayman Islands National Museum

A small, well-kept museum in George Town covering the island's maritime, turtling and colonial history, housed in one of the oldest surviving buildings on Grand Cayman, a manageable rainy-afternoon stop.

04

Bloody Bay Wall

A dramatic drop-off reef wall famous among certified divers for near-vertical coral face and exceptional visibility, generally reached by boat from Grand Cayman or a Little Cayman day trip.

05

Camana Bay

A walkable waterfront town center near Seven Mile Beach with restaurants, shops and a small marina, a straightforward evening out without needing a rental car.

Questions

Cayman Islands FAQs

Can non-divers still see Stingray City?

Yes. Most Stingray City tours are aimed at snorkelers and waders as much as certified divers, since the sandbar sits in shallow water where you can simply stand and interact with the rays. No certification is needed for the sandbar trips, only the deeper reef dives elsewhere.

Do I need a passport for Grand Cayman?

Yes, a valid US passport is required to enter the Cayman Islands; a birth certificate or driver's license alone will not work for air travel. Check your expiration date before booking, since it should have several months of validity left.

What does the Luxury Escape Offers package actually include?

The package covers your resort accommodations near Seven Mile Beach, plus applicable taxes and resort fees. Meals are your own responsibility unless the specific resort is booked all-inclusive, and airfare is separate unless you choose the fly-away product. A specialist will confirm the exact inclusions before you book.

How is the driving in Grand Cayman?

Traffic drives on the left, which trips up some US visitors, and roads near George Town and Seven Mile Beach can get congested at peak times. Many travelers stick to taxis or resort shuttles for short beach-corridor trips and rent a car only for exploring farther afield.

Is Grand Cayman good for beginners in the water?

Very much so. Seven Mile Beach itself is calm and shallow for swimming, and Stingray City is a low-key, guided introduction to open water. Deeper reef sites like Bloody Bay Wall are better suited to certified divers rather than first-timers.
