Red Rock Canyon
A 13-mile scenic loop about twenty minutes from the Strip, with red and cream sandstone formations, short hikes and pullouts for photos. Easiest done as a half-day rental-car or shuttle trip.
Fremont Street Experience
Downtown Vegas under a covered LED canopy, with cheaper drinks, zip lines overhead and a grittier, more local feel than the Strip resorts a few miles south.
Hoover Dam
About 45 minutes southeast, the dam and Lake Mead overlook make a solid half-day trip; guided tours go inside the dam itself if you book ahead.

Is Las Vegas a good trip for families, or mainly for adults?
Both work. Pools, shows and shopping suit families fine, but the casino floors, nightclubs and most bars are 21 and up. If kids are coming, pick a resort known for a family-friendly pool and plan the casino-heavy nights for after they are settled.

How hot does it get in the summer?
Very hot. Daytime highs routinely pass 100 degrees from June through September, sometimes topping 110. It is dry heat and pools stay open, but hiking or long outdoor walks are best done in the early morning if you are visiting in summer.
How far is Red Rock Canyon from the Strip?
About 20 to 25 minutes by car to the visitor center, with the full scenic loop taking another hour or two depending on how many stops you make. It is close enough for a half-day trip without giving up an evening on the Strip.
