About Curacao
Curacao sits far enough south in the Caribbean Sea that it rarely takes a direct hit from a hurricane, which is part of why it draws travelers looking for a reliable beach week rather than a gamble on the forecast. The island runs on Dutch, Papiamentu and English side by side, a legacy of centuries as a trading port.
What you are booking here is an all-inclusive resort stay on or near the water, usually a short drive from Willemstad, with meals, drinks and a pool built into the price so the vacation does not require a wallet at every turn. The coastline is mostly limestone cliff broken up by small coves rather than one long beach, so the resort itself, not a boardwalk strip, is the center of the trip.
Below the surface is the other half of the draw. Curacao sits on a healthy fringing reef close to shore, calm and clear enough that snorkeling straight off a resort beach is normal, not something you need a boat trip to reach. Certified divers add wreck and wall dives further out.

Handelskade waterfront
The row of pastel Dutch colonial buildings facing Sint Anna Bay in Willemstad, best seen on foot in the morning before the cruise crowds and heat build up.
Queen Emma Bridge
A floating pontoon bridge that swings open for ship traffic and connects the Punda and Otrobanda sides of Willemstad; crossing it on foot is free and takes about ten minutes.
Playa Kenepa (Grote Knip)
A cove on the island's quieter west side with cliffs on either side and some of the clearest water on Curacao, worth the drive out from a Willemstad base.
Shore snorkeling and diving
A near-continuous reef wraps much of the leeward coast close enough to shore that many resorts offer walk-in snorkeling, with dive shops nearby for certified divers who want deeper wrecks and walls.
Mambo Beach boardwalk
A lively strip of restaurants, bars and a groomed beach just outside Willemstad, an easy option for an evening out beyond the resort grounds, especially with a group that wants variety after a few nights of resort dining.

Do I need a passport to visit Curacao?
Yes. Curacao is a constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands, not the United States, so a valid US passport is required for entry regardless of how short the trip is. Check that it will not expire within a few months of your travel dates.
Is Curacao really outside the hurricane zone?
Curacao sits well south of the main Atlantic hurricane track, so direct hits are rare compared to islands farther north like the Bahamas or Dominican Republic. It is not guaranteed to be storm-free, but the risk is meaningfully lower.
Can I snorkel right from the beach?
At many resorts, yes. Curacao has a fringing reef close to shore along much of the leeward coast, so walk-in snorkeling is common. Visibility and reef access vary by property, so a specialist can point you to a resort with strong shore snorkeling if that matters most.
